উপরের Sentence গুলোতেA,an ও the এগুলো nounকে নির্দিষ্ট (the)বা অনিদৃষ্ট (A/an)করে নির্দেশ করেছে। nounনির্দেশক এই Determiners গুলো কে Article বলে।

Parts of speech এ a,an এবং the এর বিশেষ তাৎপর্য রয়েছে । কর্তৃপক্ষকে এগুলো Demonstrative Adjective কেননা this ও that Demonstrative adjective গুলোর সংক্ষিপ্ত রূপ হচ্ছে The. কিন্তু a,an এবং জাতি প্রকাশক theআবার Demonstrative adjective নয়

article প্রধানত দুই প্রকার। যথা :-
- Definite article
- Indefinite article
definite article:- the কে definite article বলে। কোন কিছুকে নির্দিষ্ট করে বোঝাতে definite article ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন :-

The book is on the table
উপরের উদাহরণ দুটিতে the, man, book, ও table, noun গুলোকে নির্দিষ্ট করে বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।
Indefinite article :- A ও An কে indefinite article বলা হয়। কোন কিছুকে সাধারণভাবে বা অনির্দিষ্টভাবে বোঝাতে indefinite article ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন :-
I saw a man
He gave me an umbrella
উপরের উদাহরণ দুটিতে a এবং an যথাক্রমে man ও umbrella এর পূর্বে তাদেরকে অনির্দিষ্টভাবে নির্দেশ করে করেছে।

সাধারণত Common noun
গুলোর number এর ভিত্তিতে Articleগুলোর ব্যবহার নির্ধারিত হয়।যেমন ঃCommon noun গুলো singular number হলে তার পূর্বে অবশ্যই একটি Articleবসাতে হয়। যেমন ঃThis is a pain. অথবা this is the pen.
কিন্তু Common noun যদি Plural number হয় তাহলে তার পূর্বে a, an তো বুঝতেই পারেনা। সাধারণত the বসানোর প্রয়োজন হয় না। তবে নির্দিষ্টভাবে বোঝালে the বসে।
যেমন ঃGirls are singing song.
or,The girls are singing song
সুতরাং আমরা বলতে পারি a ও an শুধুমাত্র singular number কিন্তু সকল Gender এর ক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহৃত হয় অপরদিকে the, singular বা plural উভয় number ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Rule 1/ A ও an এর ব্যবহার ইংরেজি বর্ণমালায় Vowel ও দ্বারা নির্ধারিত হয়। সাধারণত Word এর প্রথমে Consonant থাকলে তার পূর্বে a হয়।
Rule 2/সাধারণত কোন o, h শব্দ দ্বারা হলে এবং সংক্ষিপ্ত শব্দের ক্ষেত্রে Article ব্যবহারে ভিন্নতা দেখা যায়। এক্ষেত্রে নির্মুক্ত বিষয়টি নামে রাখতে হবে।
Rule 3/কোন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু কে নির্দিষ্ট করে না বুঝিয়ে অনির্দিষ্টভাবে বুঝালে তার পূর্বে A বা An বাসে।
Rule 4/ অপরিচিত ব্যক্তির নাম বা পদবীর পূর্বেA বা an ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Rule 5/ পেশা, ব্যবসা প্রভৃতি বোঝাতে a বা an ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Rule 6/ সমজাতির কিছু বোঝাতে common noun এর পূর্বে a বা an বসে

Rule 1/ সাধারণত নির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু বোঝাতে Singular ও Plural common noun এর পূর্বে the ব্যবহৃত হয় ।
Rule 2/ পরিচিত কোন বস্তুু বা স্থানের নাম পূর্বে the বসে।
Rule 3/ বাক্য তুলনামূলক কিছু বোঝালে তার পূর্বে the বসে।
Rule 4/ বাক্যে noun টি কোন Phrase বা Clause দ্বারা নির্দিষ্ট করা হলে তার পূর্বে the বসে।
Rule 5/ সমগ্র জাতি বোঝাতে ingular common noun এর পূর্বে the বসে। এই the কে Generalising the বলে।
Rule 6/ সাধারণ নিয়ম অনুযায়ী Proper noun এর পূর্বে কোন article বসে না । কিন্তু ধর্মগ্রন্থ, সংবাদপত্র, জাহাজ, ট্রেন, বিমান, মহাকাশযান, বিখ্যাত অট্টালিকা, নদী, সাগর, মহাসাগর, পর্বতমালা, দ্বীপপুঞ্জ, মরুভূমি, ইত্যাদি নামের পূর্বে the বসে।
Rule 7/ ঋতু, তারিখ প্রভৃতির নামের পূর্বে the বসে না।
Rule 8/একক বস্তুু যেমন -চন্দ্র, সূর্য, পৃথিবী, ওদিকের নামের পূর্বেthe বসে।
